| K-9 Comfort Dogs Attend Funeral for Police Officer and K-9 Killed in the Line of Duty |

On Friday, January 15th, LCC Comfort Dogs Fuerst, Tara, and Zina, along with Tim Hetzner, Pastor Tim Engle, and Vida Johnston, attended the funeral service in Indiana for Mishawaka police officer Cpl. James Szuba and his K-9 partner, Ricky. Szuba and his canine Ricky were killed by an alleged drunken driver Saturday night. Services were held at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana. ![]() Over 1,000 officers and 100 K-9 partners were in attendance. The LCC Comfort Dogs attended at the request of Dr. Jean Marie Thompson, Team Leader for the K-9 Assisted Crisis Response Team for the State of Indiana. Fuerst, Tara, and Zina joined the Crisis Response Dogs from Indiana and their handlers. They were able to meet with, and bring comfort to, the officers and family members as they waited to enter the chapel for the service. They also stood as an Honor Guard outside the chapel as the police officers and family members left in procession to the graveside.
