Update and Urgent Medical Request from C.C. Howell Print E-mail
C.C. and Family

In April, 2005 LCC received a request from Pastor Kenneth Taglauer of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He needed help for a family in his church. He had a member who was coming to Chicago for 100 days of cancer treatment with her husband and two year old daughter. They needed a place to stay and spiritual support while they were away from home. Through the generous donations of money, furniture, food and time, C.C., her daughter and husband Dave were able to stay rent free in a house in Palatine while she underwent treatment.

LCC has received an update from CC and a request for assistance for three months of insurance payments of $400.00 per month.

Update from C.C. Howell:

I wanted to let you know that after almost 5 years being cancer free, I have another cancer diagnosis. Early stage breast cancer.

David and I have also moved. We are living in Las Vegas with my oldest daughter. We had 2 reasons for moving. She is pregnant with twins and her husband works out of state. And my mom lives in Palmdale, California and was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. She needed someone to help her while she is doing chemo. So David and I decided that, after lots of praying, we needed to be closer to our family.

David took a lesser job to get us out here. He transferred to Sam's Club and really was disappointed with the position. He decided to take a position with another company who promised him a lot of things and are now not coming through with them. He is hourly again for the first time in years and they promised him 40 to 50 hours per week as an assistant manager. So far he has barely worked 30 per week. One week after he started working for the new company, I was diagnosed with the breast cancer. The new company doesn't give insurance for 3 months. David's insurance with WalMart Corp ended and we now have to COBRA it. To COBRA the insurance for all of us is $1,000 a month. So we have decided that we only need COBRA coverage for me. That will be $400 per month. But it is still more than we can afford with the number of hours he is getting on the job.

I need to ask if LCC can help me with the COBRA payments. I have exhausted every other avenue. You all did so much for me when I had my transplant and I felt I shouldn't ask, but I honestly don't know where else to turn. I asked my mom if she could help with the payments but she is exhausting her resources with her treatments.

Right now we are waiting for results of genetic testing to see if I need to have a bi-lateral mastectomy. They caught it very early and it is very treatable. Most cases like this they would just do a lumpectomy and radiation. But I had a drug called Zevalin when I was fighting the Lymphoma and it was a whole body internal radiation and I am more than likely not a candidate for radiation. They are checking with my transplant doctor in Chicago.

I know my oncologist and surgeon in Vegas said surgery will be around the middle or end of March. I have to have the COBRA papers and payment turned back in before then. We continue to pray for God's guidance and provision.

God's blessings
