Haiti Earthquake
Consider it as a Gift this CHRISTmas: Final Month for Haiti School Sponsorship Program Print E-mail
Haiti Kids As we prepare our hearts and minds for the celebration of our Lord's birth, let us also remember the children, who, like Jesus were born into very poor conditions. Caught in a cycle of poverty, natural disaster, disease, and broken families, the Haitian children living in the tent cities have no hope of attending school this year without assistance. LCC staff member, Lophane Laurent, writes,
"... all are in God's hands and I hope that more sponsors will be interested in sponsoring a child to go to a Lutheran school. Children should be at school in January, after that the school will not accept them. So I want to thank you for your hard work and efforts doing in US to support those poor children to attend a Lutheran school this year". The gift of an education is $300. The gift of hope and a future is priceless. Blessings to you this Advent season."

Haiti Mission Team from Valley Lutheran in Chargrin Falls, Ohio, Returns Safely Print E-mail
Haiti Group Ohio The team from Valley Lutheran Chargrin Falls, Ohio returned home safely from their Haiti mission trip. The team had a very productive week even with the unrest that took place in Jacmel. They are so thankful for the prayers of God's faithful that went up on their behalf. The team saw about 600 people for the eye glass clinics in several locations Jacmel Church, Beaudrouin Church, and Raymond Church. They also served at the Beaudrouin Church feeding the children from the tent city.

This is a dedicated group that returns to serve in Haiti each year. If you would like to organize a mission team to Haiti contact Dona Martin at LCC by phone (866) 455-6466 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

LCC Staff in Haiti Reports on Feeding Program Thanks to Your Generous Donations

Sydney Kessa, LCC staff member in Haiti, reported this week of the success of the feeding program that is sustaining families living in tents since the earthquake of January 2010. She writes with the following details.

Haiti Feeding

This program is very much a blessing for those people since after the earthquake who don't have anything to eat. At this moment where many organizations are leaving the country so the situation is very difficult. Thanks to all of you who continue to feed those famillies. We shared food with more than 60 kids and adults because it is hard to feed one child and leave the rest of the family without food.

May God Bless you.

Mission Team in Haiti Locked Down as Protests Escalate Over Murder and Kidnapping - Please Pray for Safety Print E-mail
Jacmel Unrest The streets of Jacmel, Haiti are filled with protesters in the wake of the murder of a man there and the kidnapping of his three year-old nephew. Recently a high profile member of society was arrested for leading a kidnapping ring. There are protests across the country and calls for President Martelly to resign.

A team from Valley Lutheran Chargrin Falls, Ohio has been doing human care ministry in Haiti for a number of years and is in Haiti this week. The team participates in eye glass clinics in the tent cities at Bourdine and at the First Lutheran Church of Haiti in Jacmel. They also financially support feeding programs, Vacation Bible School, and contribute medical supplies to the clinics. They see about 400 people at each clinic that they attend. We have just learned that due to unrest and violence in the city they are being confined for their safety in their hotel.

Please keep this team and all our Haitian friends in your prayers.

Your gift of just $30 per month or $300 for the school year has provided the opportunity for twenty Haitian children to attend school! All of these children, the poorest of the poor, live in tent cities and would otherwise be without an education this year. Now they attend school and study math and grammar - a dream realized through LCC's Haiti Children's Education Sponsorship Program.

To all who responded in kindness and generously to the needs of these children, THANK YOU! Lophane Laurent, LCC staff member in Haiti writes...

"...when I went to them (the families) to tell them that they will be at school it was a big joy for all of them".
For all those whose hearts are filled with compassion for these children and desire to help, but have not yet committed, it's not too late. You can still sponsor a child or multiple children in a family. Click here to sponsor a Haitian Child's Education

Hurricane Sandy Hit Haiti Before it Became a Superstorm - Help the Victims Print E-mail
Superstorm Haiti On the way to the East Coast of the United States Superstorm Sandy was a hurricane that hit Haiti with a glancing blow. The storm came close enough to inflict major damage on the island since so many structures are temporary and unstable anyway. LCC has received word from Pastor Isaac (pictured left) about some of the damage done and what is needed to recover from the storm. He writes...

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

Following the passage of the cyclone Sandy in Haiti caused much more damage. This was the case in your area. We were praying for you, your family and your people. Thank God there is not much loss of life. We share the pain of the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. Thus, we continue to pray for one and another to restore areas of our two countries. The road from Port-au-Prince to Jeremie is cut from 2 sides, so the transport is blocked and this has caused the prices of foods to go up. Our gardens and animals are disappearing to 80%, this would result in a great time of famine. We hope on your prayers as we do for you.

God bless you!
Pastor Isaac Jacquet

Families in Haiti Lose Tent Homes to Hurricane Sandy Print E-mail
Haiti Superstorm Tents While the victims of Superstorm Sandy continue the long process of recovery on the East coast LCC has received word from Lophane, our staff member in Haiti, that families in the tent city lost their homes to hurricane Sandy before it came to the U.S. One of those is the family LCC President Tim Hetzner spent a night with during his last visit to Haiti in September. We are asking everyone to consider a donation to help rebuild the tents lost to the storm. Lophane shares some detail in an email to Tim Hetzner...

Blessings to you brother from our Lord. How was your day? I know it was a bad day for you, because you were busy with the superstorm. Below is the information about the ladies that their children are sponsor in our scholarship program. First the lady you stayed with...her tent measure 4 meters 90 to 3 meters 20. We will need for her $630 to fix it and the two other ladies you asked me to get the information and send to you are : 4 meters to 3 meters 10 for a price of $ 550 each. I want to thank you for your help and your efforts to find people in US who want to support those poor ladies with their families. I know you are not in Illinois, but you will get this message when you will be back home. Have a blessed night and be safe also.

Blessings

Help Still Needed - Haiti Students

Haiti Students

Lophane Laurent, our LCC staff member in Haiti, has sent us an update on children that have been sponsored through your generosity and are now attending school. These children live in Haitian tent cities and cannot afford to attend school. LCC has committed to helping as many children as possible but we are wholly dependent on your donations to make this happen. Pictured are the three Exume children who were the first to be sponsored. Lophane reports...

Blessings to you from our Lord. I just came to Good Shepherd Lutheran school, where we have most of our children go to school and I took pictures from the first family, like you asked me to do for you...the others are not ready yet, so I send you them and when the others are ready, I will take them and send them to you. Thanks again for all and may God continue blessing you and all our sponsors and staff members of LCC.

Blessings.

We are thankful for Lophane and the good work he is doing for the sake of the children and the sharing of the Gospel. There are many more children waiting for the chance to go to school.
